With VW having faced a multi-billion fine for skirting diesel emissions laws and Germany outright banning the fuel in certain parts of the country, you might think our Bavarian brethren are well on their way to completely ousting the fuel. You would be wrong, however, and we have the new VW Touareg V8 TDI as proof. Under the hood of the Touareg V8 TDI is the German automaker’s hulking 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 diesel engine, which is good for 420 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. Paired with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission, this big diesel will hustle the VW from 0-60 mph in just 4.9s and top out at an electronically limited 155 mph (250 km/h). VW is offering the Touareg V8 TDI with two well-equipped design packages as standard: ‘Elegance’ and ‘Atmosphere’, with ‘Elegance’ featuring dark tones and metal trim and ‘Atmosphere’ focusing on warmer tones with wood trim. VW’s R-Line design package can be added to the vehicle as well, which adds sportier fro

Fifty-five Westfalia vans on the ground. Fifty-five Westfalia vans! You take one down, sell it around. Hold on a second. You can’t separate 55 vintage VW vans.  Not if you want this collection, that is . The seller says that if you want one you have to take them all. And it’s going to cost you. It’s not a long distance to go from car collector to car hoarder. In fact, it might only take a decent plot of land to start it growing. And the difference between a collection and a hoard is really just the condition of the vehicles. But based on the three photos this seller has given us, we’re leaning toward calling it a hoard. Though putting it up for sale probably cancels that.  SHARE  (6)  COMMENTS Fifty-five Westfalia vans on the ground. Fifty-five Westfalia vans! You take one down, sell it around. Hold on a second. VW Thinks the New GLI Will Give Better Bang for Buck than GTI

Imagen
While Volkswagen has yet to reveal exactly how much the Jetta GLI will cost when it comes out later this year, the pricing will be “impressive,” according to product developer Adam Reinhardt.  Reinhardt  made his comments to  Motor Trend  at the Chicago Auto Show , where he spoke at length about the new, more powerful than ever sedan. Unfortunately, we can’t reveal pricing just yet,” Reinhardt told Motor Trend, though he did have some encouraging news. “When we do our own internal value analysis to see which features are valued at which price-points for our customers, we actually come up with calculations that show that the GLI offers more equipment for comparable, if not even a little bit better money, than GTI.” While that remains a fairly wishy washy statement–“better money” along with the whole comment being couched in equipment levels make it anything but a clear declaration–it’s nice to hear that the GLI should still be a performance bargain. But the team wasn’t just

This Auto Union Type C LEGO Kit Looks Outstanding

Imagen
LEGO Ideas has been responsible for a number of great LEGO cars,  but few are as interesting as this Auto Union Type C. Designed by LEGO creator redera00, the car is 50 cm long (about 20 inches long) and features a removable engine cover so that you can see the car’s legendary V16. The kit has already reached the first major LEGO Ideas hurdles of 100 and 1,000 supporters. With each hurdle, the kits get more time to reach their ultimate goal of 10,000 supporters, at which time it gets reviewed by LEGO and put into production (if LEGO can get Audi’s permission, presumably). But what’s the story behind the car? The Type C’s history starts, unfortunately, but inseparably, with the Nazis, who were looking for ways to express Germany’s technical skills. And that included motorsports. The story gets less evil, though, I swear! This is where Ferdinand Porsche steps in. In financial dire straits, Porsche did the only reasonable thing that someone running out of money would do, an

Find Of The Day: The Ultimate Corrado?

Imagen
It takes a lot for us to label something the “ultimate” anything. And today’s Find Of The Day, a 1992 Volkswagen Corrado SLC,  approaches ultimate status. Take a look at the details and you’ll see what we mean. Not to be cliché, but the definition of  ultimate  is “the best achievable or imaginable of its kind.” Or they could have used this Corrado. What makes it so great? Well if you haven’t already jumped to the photos, this SLC is massaged from top to bottom and from inside to out. First things first; this Corrado has a Volkswagen tuner’s favorite engine: the legendary VR6. But VWVortex member  cstanley19  couldn’t get by with a stock motor. The ad says ” Literally every part of the drivetrain gone through.” The VR6 upgrades include new pistons, connecting rods, hardware, seals, and much more. The cherry on the top of this mega motor: a Kinetic T3T4 turbocharger. Take a look at the ridiculously clean engine bay. Outside, the clean body lines show hours upon hours were spe

Find Of The Day: Mars Red GTI, Out-Of-This-World Price

Imagen
We all dream of finding a time capsule car, one that looks like it just came off the assembly line. Of course, we also hope it has an affordable price. Today’s Find Of The Day is simply amazing; a breathtaking 1985 MK2 GTI. You’ll gasp for air at both the condition and the price. The pictures speak for themselves: this GTI is immaculate. Look at the paint, the bumpers, the wheel wells, the trim, the engine bay, and the seats. It’s absolutely perfect. There’s not a speck of brake dust on those bottle cap wheels. It’s unreal. According to the ad, this Mars Red GTI had one owner for 33 years. If you look closely at the photos, you’ll notice the owner must have been in Canada; the speedometer and the odometer are in kilometers. The odo shows 55,000 kilos; which is only 34,000 miles. As the ad states, this is a “no frills” model; no power steering, no air conditioning, and crank windows. Despite being basic, it does have its original Blaupunkt stereo, rubber floor mats, and even

TEST DRIVE: 2019 BMW M850i xDrive — And This Isn’t Even the M8 Yet

Yet as I walked onto The Thermal Club’s South Track, a Barcelona Blue BMW M850i was there for the taking. Yum. Prior to driving it, I’d heard quite a bit about it from colleagues, fellow journalists and even people inside BMW. Some felt it was a great sports car but there were a lot that felt it was more of a comfy GT and lacked the goods to be a proper driver’s car. Due to conflicting reports, I didn’t know what to expect before I set off on the track. Which might have been for the best, if I’m honest. Not knowing what to expect allowed me to drive it with an open mind.
